1. About these terms

2. Using our journalism

Articles, illustrations, graphics and design on this site are owned by us or our licensors and protected by copyright. You may read, print and share links to our articles for personal, non-commercial use, and quote short passages with credit to The Northline and a link to the original.

You may not, without written permission:

• republish whole articles or illustrations, on a website, in a newsletter or in print;
• remove credits, copyright notices or captions, including the AI illustration label;
• use automated tools to copy, scrape or index the site in bulk, beyond what ordinary search engines do;
• use our content to train, fine-tune or evaluate artificial intelligence models, or to build databases or products that compete with us.

3. Third-party material

Our articles cite and link to other news organizations, public bodies and companies. Their content belongs to them. Links are provided for reference and do not mean we endorse those sites, and we are not responsible for their content or privacy practices.

4. Accuracy and no professional advice

We work hard to be accurate and correct errors under our Corrections policy, but news changes quickly and an article reflects what was known when it was published or last updated. Nothing on the site is professional, legal, medical or travel-safety advice. Event dates, prices, opening hours and conditions can change; check with the organizer, venue or resort before you travel.

5. Illustrations

Lead images on our articles are AI-generated illustrations, labelled as such. They are intended to set the scene and are not photographs of the people, places or events described.

6. Messages and submissions

When you send us a tip, letter, correction or other material, you confirm that it is yours to send and you give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use it in our reporting and to publish edited excerpts, with or without your name as you prefer. We decide whether and how to use submissions and may not reply to every message. Do not send material that is unlawful, defamatory or that infringes someone else's rights.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to interfere with the site's operation, attempt to gain unauthorized access, introduce malware, impersonate others, or use the site to send spam or for any unlawful purpose.

8. Newsletters

Newsletters are free. You can unsubscribe at any time with the link in each email. We may change or discontinue a newsletter.

9. Advertising

The site carries labelled advertising. Advertisers are responsible for their own products and claims. Your dealings with an advertiser are between you and the advertiser.

10. Copyright complaints

If you believe material on the site infringes your copyright, send a notice to our designated agent at copyright@northlinenews.com or by mail to the address above, including: your contact details; a description of the work; the address of the material on our site; a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized; a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the notice is accurate and that you are authorized to act; and your signature. We respond under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and, for Canadian rights holders, under the notice-and-notice principles of the Copyright Act.

We may change, suspend or remove any part of the site at any time. We do not guarantee that the site will always be available or free of errors.

12. Disclaimer

The site is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

13. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for loss of profits, data or goodwill, arising from your use of the site. Our total liability for any claim relating to the site is limited to US$100. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limitations, so they may not apply to you; nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer that cannot be waived.

14. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify us against claims arising from your breach of these terms or your misuse of the site.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes will be heard in the state or federal courts located in New York County, except that consumers living outside the United States may also rely on the mandatory laws and courts of their place of residence.

16. General

If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a term is not a waiver. These terms, together with our Privacy policy and Cookie policy, are the whole agreement between you and us about the site. We may update these terms by posting a new version here; continued use after the change means you accept it.
