Corrections and clarifications
How we fix mistakes, and how to tell us about one.
Our commitment
When we get something wrong, we correct it promptly and say so. We do not quietly change published facts.
How to report an error
Use the Report an error link at the end of any article, or email corrections@northlinenews.com with the headline or address of the article and what you believe is wrong. Supporting links or documents help. An editor reviews every report, usually within one business day.
What we do
- Correction: a factual error is fixed in the text, and a note at the end of the article explains what was wrong and when it was changed.
- Clarification: when a fact was correct but could be misunderstood, we add context and a note.
- Update: new information is added as a story develops, with the update time shown under the headline.
- Editor's note: used when the problem is serious enough to affect the whole article, such as a source who misled us.
We remove articles only in exceptional cases, for example a legal obligation or a real risk to someone's safety, and we explain the removal where the article used to be.
